Scott McTominay will miss Scotland’s upcoming Nations League fixtures after Napoli confirmed the midfielder has been diagnosed with a mild, benign heart arrhythmia.
The 29-year-old was substituted during Napoli’s 2–1 Serie A loss to Como at the weekend and is now set to undergo a minor corrective procedure in the coming days.
Napoli expect McTominay to be back in action after the early-October international break following cardiac arrhythmia ablation, a procedure that uses heat or cold energy to create tiny scars in the heart to block faulty electrical signals and restore a normal rhythm.
The timing means McTominay is expected to miss all four of Sebastien Pocognoli’s first games in charge of Scotland - home and away against Slovenia, plus Nations League matches versus North Macedonia and Switzerland.
His absence is a significant blow to Scotland’s midfield options as they begin life under the new head coach.
