Motherwell fined £21,500 over Freiburg tie crowd disorder

The Fir Park club have been sanctioned for a pitch incursion at home and pyrotechnics during the return leg in Germany.

Motherwell have been hit with fines totalling £21,500 after supporters entered the pitch and set off pyrotechnics during their Conference League qualifying tie against Freiburg.

UEFA has hit the club with a £4,300 fine for a pitch incursion during the home leg at Fir Park, with a further £17,200 penalty handed down over pyrotechnic use in the return match in Germany.

The Steelmen have also confirmed they were formally reprimanded by the SPFL following a separate pitch incursion during last month’s Premiership meeting with St.Mirren in Paisley.

Motherwell had already appealed to supporters to behave responsibly amid the prospect of substantial UEFA sanctions. The club said it was disappointed that the message had been ignored by what it described as a small minority of fans.
