Oxlade-Chamberlain signs new one year deal to remain at Celtic
O’Neill played a key role in securing the midfielder’s future as Celtic prepare for title defence and Champions League football
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to remain at Celtic for the 2026-27 season, with Teamtalk reporting that the former England international has agreed a new one year deal with the Scottish champions, despite attracting interest from across Europe and the United States.
The 32-year-old midfielder joined Celtic shortly after the January transfer window closed, signing a short-term deal following his departure from Besiktas. Initially brought in to strengthen Martin O’Neill’s midfield options, he adapted quickly to a deeper role and made 12 appearances, scoring twice.
His return to form is understood to have prompted enquiries from Premier League sides, as well as clubs in Italy and Spain, while several MLS teams also explored a potential move. Yet the midfielder has opted to remain at Celtic Park, with O’Neill playing a significant role in the decision, viewing Oxlade-Chamberlain as a key figure within the squad, valuing his experience and versatility.
Following discussions between the club and the player’s representatives, an agreement has now been reached for him to stay on for another season. The decision provides Celtic with continuity as they prepare for another domestic title challenge and a return to Champions League competition.
