Rangers close in on Shankland as Hearts skipper moves towards Ibrox switch
Lawrence Shankland is on the brink of a switch to Rangers, with reports claiming the Hearts captain has agreed terms on a move to Ibrox, subject to a medical.
Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland is set to be become Danny Rohl’s first signing of the summer as Rangers look to bounce back from finishing third in the Scottish Premiership this season.
One of the most consistent strikers in Scottish football, scoring 88 goals in 171 appearances since moving to Tynecastle in 2022, Shankland led Hearts to the brink of winning the league this season - only to lose on the final day to Celtic.
The 30-year-old is likely to move to Rangers on a free transfer, as the Scotland striker had a clause in his contract that allowed him to walk away from the club for free this summer.
Rangers will be hoping to complete Shankland’s medical before he meets up with Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad on Tuesday ahead of their World Cup campaign, which kicks off on June 14th against Haiti in Boston.
Shankland began his career at Queen’s Park, before spells with Aberdeen, Dunfermline, St.Mirren and Morton. He moved to Ayr United on a free transfer in July 2017 scoring 63 goals in 74 appearances. He continued his superb scoring record at Tannadice, scoring 40 games in 74 games. A year long spell with Beerschot in the Belgian league, led him back to Scotland and Hearts in the summer of 2022 where he immediately became an integral part of the Tynecastle side, finishing his first season with the Jambos as the club’s top scorer and collecting both Players’ and Fans’ Player of the Year honours.
At international level Shankland has been capped 18 times by Scotland, scoring 4 goals, he ranks among the Premiership’s top scorers of the last decade and is recognised as one of Scotland’s most reliable centre-forwards.
