Should Derek McInnes’ men fail to overcome Jagiellonia Białystok, they will drop down to the UEFA Conference League play-off round, where they would face either FK Jablonec or FC RFS. This provides a safety net for European football, albeit in Europe’s third-tier competition.
Victory over Jagiellonia would set up a two-legged play-off tie on August 20 and 27, with the winners securing a place in the Europa League’s league phase. The losers face immediate elimination from European competition for this season.
