Scotland striker Ross Stewart joins Swansea City on a free transfer, signing a three-year deal after leaving Southampton and boosting the Swans' attack.
Swansea City have completed the signing of Scotland international Ross Stewart on a free transfer following his departure from Southampton at the end of last season.
The 30-year-old striker has signed a three-year contract with the Welsh side after leaving the Saints in June. Stewart became available after he and Southampton failed to agree a new deal, bringing his time on the south coast to an end.
The move sees Stewart remain in the Championship, where he has already established himself as a proven goalscorer with both Southampton and Sunderland.
Swansea head coach Vitor Matos believes the forward will bring valuable experience and leadership to his squad as the club targets promotion.
“Ross is an experienced and proven performer in the Championship, and we are delighted to have him as part of what we are trying to build here at Swansea City,” said Matos.
“In our conversations he has made clear his hunger and desire to be an important senior figure and leader in our dressing room.
“His goalscoring record shows he is someone who relishes responsibility and we look forward to getting down to work with him and settling him into the group.”
Stewart scored 11 goals in 33 appearances for Southampton last season, making it his most productive campaign since joining the club from Sunderland in 2023.
His overall time at St Mary’s was disrupted by injury, with the striker managing only 17 appearances across his first two seasons. He finished his Southampton career with 12 goals in 50 appearances, having also helped the club return to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs in 2024.
His previous Championship record was established during an impressive spell at Sunderland. Stewart’s performances at the Stadium of Light earned him a move to Southampton, and Swansea will hope he can rediscover that consistency in front of goal.
The striker was included in Scotland’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, featuring as a substitute in Scotland’s 1-0 defeat to Morocco.
