Rangers denied at Dens as Dundee stop Ibrox side going top of the table
Rangers’ seven-match winning run ended as Dundee twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Dens Park, denying Derek McInnes’ side the chance to move top of the Scottish Premiership.
Bradley Fink put Dundee ahead after a disjointed first half from Rangers, before Badredine Bouanani levelled just before the break. Nicolas Raskin’s stunning long-range strike looked set to make it eight wins on the spin, but Dan Neil’s misplaced backpass was pounced on by Callum Jones to earn Dundee a deserved point.
Rangers remain second, now four points behind Celtic, who host Hearts on Sunday. McInnes admitted the error felt “like a balloon popping” and criticised his side’s failure to turn dominance into goals.
Aberdeen end home drought to sink St Mirren
Aberdeen ended a three-game run without a home goal as they beat St Mirren 3-1 at Pittodrie, easing the pressure on Stephen Robinson after last weekend’s defeat by St Johnstone.
Brad Lyons opened the scoring with a superb 25-yard effort after two minutes, but St Mirren controlled long spells of the first half and Eseosa Sule swept in a deserved equaliser before the interval.
Kevin Nisbet restored Aberdeen’s lead from the rebound after his penalty was saved following a VAR review, and substitute Ayoub Mouloua made sure of the points with a smart finish shortly after coming on. The Dons move above St Mirren into seventh, while the Buddies have now lost five league games in a row.
Kiltie double lifts Kilmarnock off the bottom
Greg Kiltie scored twice as Kilmarnock edged a five-goal thriller against Motherwell, winning 3-2 at Rugby Park to climb off the foot of the table.
Kiltie put Killie ahead after just 68 seconds after a poor pass from Motherwell goalkeeper Alex Paulsen, but Alex Lowry levelled before Seb Palmer-Houlden put the visitors in front early in the second half. Tyreece John-Jules equalised two minutes later, and Kiltie’s low finish from Jamie Brandon’s cross proved decisive.
The result saw Motherwell slip to a fifth straight defeat and remain level on points with Kilmarnock. Neil McCann’s men now sit 11th, one point clear of bottom club Hibernian.
Falkirk deepen Hibs’ Easter Road misery
Jacob Murrell’s double gave Falkirk a 2-1 win at Easter Road, leaving Hibernian bottom of the Premiership and extending their miserable home record to seven consecutive top-flight defeats.
Hibs created plenty and had spells of control, but individual errors proved costly as Falkirk took all three points. New manager Marink Reedijk, two games into his reign, described the manner of the defeat as leaving him with a “sick feeling”, despite insisting his side had shown progress.
Falkirk move up to ninth, while Hibs remain rooted to the bottom on seven points, with questions now mounting over whether they are being dragged into a genuine relegation battle.
St Johnstone and Dundee United share the spoils
St Johnstone and Dundee United played out a 1-1 draw at McDiarmid Park, with United recovering from an avoidable goal to take a point.
St Johnstone’s opener was gift-wrapped by a combination of United errors, but Jim Goodwin’s side responded well and had the better of the second half. The draw keeps both sides in the top six, with St Johnstone fifth and Dundee United sixth on 12 points.
Saints remain difficult to beat at home, having lost only once in five Premiership matches at McDiarmid Park this season - a narrow defeat to Celtic.
On Sunday, Scottish Champions Celtic can stretch their lead at the top to seven points when they host Hearts on Sunday, while Hearts could close the gap on second place Rangers if they manage to secure only their third away win in the league since January 2025.
